FMP Weekly Diaries

Week 01

Finalizing FMP proposal

Week 02

This week I am hoping to get ideas on the visuals for an AMS video. I want to make the visuals before doing the actual audio so I can get a picture of the kind of audio to make to go with the visuals. Also by doing this I can make the audio in time with the visuals. I tried to make the visuals myself but found it extremely challenging because I have not done visuals before. I did try to find research on producing my own visuals but found it complicated as the tutorials were using software I have not used before. (Miah, 2022) I have used iMovie before and have an understanding but could not find any tutorials in making visuals in iMovie. My solution was to screen record some visuals found on Youtube. I found a 4 hour video of relaxing music performed over a selection of nature videos. I screen recorded a section of the video and imported it into imovie. In iMovie I removed the music that was in the video ready to put my own music once it is completed. (Healing soul, 2022) The problem with this is the chance of the visuals getting flagged up for copyright if uploaded onto Youtube or other social media platforms where it could be taken down and my channel or account getting a strike. I could record my own visuals at the beach using my iPhone or go to nature places and record I some footage there and edit it over the week ready for putting my own music.

Week 03

For this week I aim to create a social media account to host my work and hopefully gain an audience. I have created a Tik Tok account and currently have one follower as I have yet to upload anything but hopefully I will get more followers once I upload my videos.

Over the past few weeks I have been trying out a few different apps to see which apps work better for me, and the apps are really did like is clip studios because it has loads of sample packs and you don’t have to pay a subscription to get the full access when I tried drone pad ambient sound scape. It wanted me to pay £29.99 a year just to use some of the features which was obviously frustrating so I kept on looking. Then I found Remixlive make music and beats . One only wanted £8.99 a month it was what I wasn’t what I was expecting as it’s mostly made for people who, like EDM, hip-hop and drum and bass.

Week 04

I was adrised by my lecturer to explore a free piece of software called PaulStretch. It is a fun app to use to be able to record a sound, stretch it and add reverb to create ambient sounds due to making a sample really long (up to 24 hours!). I found the app was great to create sounds but I had a problem using it on the computers at college. I struggled with the technical side of using PaulStretch by how it exports audio to be imported into either Logic Pro or Garageband.

Week 05.

Over the past couple of weeks, I have struggled with concentrating and staying focused on producing an ASMR video. I have got support from my tutors to make sure I stayed on track. Overall I learnt more on ASMR such as how it can help people with sleep and as a ADHD coping mechanism. I composed one track but was not happy with it because it wasn’t how I wanted it to sound. I wanted to make the song relaxing and I tried listening to the song myself in context to ASMR relaxation but found I could do better. I also gave the link to my mum to try as she has insomnia and she gave me constructive feedback on ways to improve such as adding some piano and perhaps some gentle guitar in the background as the first edit had mostly natural sounds such as waves, birds but layered with some synth drones (see proposal for link). I agreed with the feedback and attempted to apply the suggested instruments. I sourced a stock ambient song from a piece of editing software called Clips Studio. The relaxing piano music suited the reference visuals I found from Youtube. As neither the music and video are my own I am unable to submit it as it would be plagiarism; however, I found the content useful as a reference on how I should approach creating my own ASMR

Week 06

Andrew and I went around the college grounds to record visuals using an ipad and an iphone for my own ASMR footage. The theme we went for was nature as it’s the most pleasing to look at. We purposely positioned the cameras to avoid traffic and other students walking by. We also positioned the camera facing towards the sky to avoid any buildings and make the visuals mysterious and not obvious they were recorded at the college
