Task 1 progress review

What did I learn?

The one thing I did learn is not to get carried away with so many project ideas and try to complete them all in my FMP. when I did that I noticed I struggled to focus some of the written work as I had so much practical work to get done in a short amount of time.

Another thing I also learned last year is how to mic up a drum kit my teacher showed us as a class a few times then slowly he just let us do it by ourselves. Before we know it we was recording and entire round band with guitarist a drummer bassist and 2 vocalist alone without a ny teachers support.

What new skills did I learn from my FMP

One new skill I did try is editing vocals By using flex pitch I found it challenging at first as it didn’t make much sense, but one of my teachers explained it to me in better detail and that definitely helped a lot.

At the start of the academic year I didn’t know how to use the mixing desk with confidence, but over the weeks of loads of practice it got a lot easier. But after Christmas we had to do a competency test to make sure we was okay to use the mixing desk alone without any teachers supervision.

The new skills that I learnt was that knowing how to edit vocals to ensure the pitch went with the backing track of the song. I done this by watching YouTube Tutorials, then I practised on what I watched

FMP feedback

So my first FMP I got a pass I’m slightly disappointed but I know its going to motivate me to work harder to get a merit or distinction. On my feedback it says I didn’t run the session on my own I forget to add that’s. And Paul suggest that instead of using a backing track for the for two singers I had in college, I could either used an midi file on the song or ask someone to play the song on a guitar or piano as it would be easier to edit the track to match the singers vocals range by changing the Key instead of me trying to make it sound better with auto tune.

What I’m going to improve next time is to make sure I upload any photo to my website and write about them

My ACHIEVEMENT

My best achievement was when I learnt how to use the recording studios when I set it up to record a band. I did this by setting up the drum kit making sure all of the mics are in the correct inputs making sure it’s getting through to logic from the live room, making sure the microphone for the vocalist was set up and working and I think this is my best achievement because at the beginning of the year I didn’t know how to set up the music studios but by the end of the year I could do it independently without any support getting through to logic I think this is my best achievement because at the beginning of the year I didn’t know how to set up the music studios but by the end of the year I could do it independently without any support

I’ve started my music journey on level 1 with a distinction then went to level 2 music course loved every second of it once again I got an distinction. Once I joined level 3 I knew it would be hard with the written work and I did fall behind a few times. I was always planning on projects and practical work like recording bands, sometime forget to upload it to my website but I manage to achieve this course with a pass and I am proud of myself.

What will I do for the FMP?

It can include up to 4 song max each group.

I’m going to record the band of my choice to create an Extended play record (EP) for a level 2 band and a level 3 band.

I’ve got an idea of a band from level three who I would like to collaborate with because they are fun to work with, work well together and very experienced.

We normally have to arrange the date and time with the band, then we book out the studios. On the day I will set up the live room ready for the band to perform. this will include me setting up the mics for the drum, this involves setting up two overheads, one snare, one kick and two toms

Ill go into the control room and record the band ready for mastering and remixing.

What new skills will I need to learn to make that happen?

I need to learn more mixing and mastering down the track to ensure the sounds quality is perfect

What existing skills will I need to develop?

I need to practice on working with vocals, I also need to work on my concentration skills as my mind can wonder off

I want to practice on using the mixing decks to ensure I get the signal from the live room to the control room then onto Logic Pro x independently without needing any support from the techs or teachers

Who will I need to work with

I’m going to be working with the level 2/3 band and maybe a friend to help me out while recording
